Your Questions, Answered
Clear answers to the questions we hear most often, from inspection to modification. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, ask our assistant or write to us directly.
Uskont offers three core services: container inspection (CSC, ACEP, damage and lashing reports), container repair to IICL standard, and container modification under the modifiTAINER brand. All three are carried out under one roof at our workshop in Istanbul, which has an IICL-certified inspector on staff. We also offer container rental, sales and purchase, storage, spare parts supply, container consultancy and container information systems.
We are based in Istanbul and serve customers across Türkiye, on request. For inspection and repair we work on site — in the field, at the port or at your depot — or in our workshop; send us your location and we will work out the best option together. We ship modified containers within Türkiye and abroad: a fair stand in Izmir, a beach café on the south coast and cold rooms exported to the Gulf region are among our completed projects.
Quotes are completely free and carry no obligation. We respond to quote requests within 12 hours; questions sent via WhatsApp are usually answered even faster.
Yes. From an individual customer who wants to turn a single container into a café to fleet owners with hundreds of containers, we work to the same standard — the quality of service does not depend on the size of the customer.
The CSC plate is the mandatory approval plate showing that a container is safe for international transport. A container without a valid CSC plate may be rejected at ports; it is also a basic document of trust in sales and leasing.
ACEP (Approved Continuous Examination Programme) is a programme approved by the administration on the container owner’s application, under which the container is examined regularly at on-hire/off-hire interchanges and during repairs; the interval between two examinations never exceeds 30 months. Containers outside ACEP are subject to PES (Periodic Examination Scheme): the first examination must take place within 5 years of manufacture, and subsequent ones at most every 30 months.
For standard inspections, the report is sent by e-mail as a PDF with photos within 1 business day of the inspection being completed. To see the scope of the report in advance, you can download the sample report on the Inspection page.
Both are examination methods accepted by the CSC convention. Under PES (Periodic Examination Scheme) the container is examined on set dates and the next examination date is marked on the CSC plate. Under ACEP (Approved Continuous Examination Programme) the container is examined at on-hire/off-hire interchanges and during repairs, within a programme the owner has had approved by the administration; the plate carries an ACEP number instead of a date. See our ACEP guide for details.
Both are possible: your container can be inspected on site — in the field, at the port or at your depot — or brought to our workshop for inspection. We will recommend the most suitable option when assessing the damage.
As a general rule, repair makes sense if the damage does not compromise structural integrity and the repair cost is well below the container’s value. We clarify this comparison during the damage assessment and, if necessary, we will honestly tell you to “replace it”.
Minor repairs are completed within days, while panel replacements and structural work can take longer. Because the time depends on the type of damage, we do not quote a fixed duration; together with the damage assessment, we provide a clear quote for time and cost.
Small and medium-scale repairs can be done on site; work such as welding and panel replacement may require workshop conditions. We recommend the most suitable option during the damage assessment.
Yes — every repair is handed over with a photo-documented repair record. If you wish, you can also have the repair documented with an independent Post-Repair Report prepared by our inspection team; this is especially recommended for leased containers and containers changing hands.
Yes — we guarantee that our repairs conform to IICL maintenance and repair standards. Every repair is handed over with a photo-documented repair record and, if you wish, an independent Post-Repair Report.
It covers all the work that turns a container into an office, café, storage unit, site building or living space, including cutting window and door openings, insulation, electrical installation, air conditioning, interior partitions, flooring, paint and brand wrapping.
It depends on the intended use and where it will be installed; uses that qualify as permanent structures may be subject to municipal regulations. You should confirm the exact requirements with your local municipality — we provide guidance during the design stage.
Since every project is custom, the price is prepared as a quote based on the container type, equipment choices and the scope of interior work. Send us your requirements via the form or WhatsApp and we will prepare a clear quote.
A container number consists of 4 letters, 6 digits and 1 check digit. The check digit is calculated from the first 10 characters with the mod 11 algorithm defined in ISO 6346; if a single character is mistyped, the validation fails. You can validate your number in seconds with our free check digit calculator.
Typical external dimensions: a 20-foot container is 6.058 × 2.438 × 2.591 m, a 40-foot container is 12.192 × 2.438 × 2.591 m, and a 40-foot High Cube is 2.896 m high. For internal dimensions, door opening, volume and tare, see the dimension table in the 3D container viewer; values may vary slightly by manufacturer.
Anyone — you do not need to be our customer. The check digit calculator and the 3D viewer are completely free; calculations run in your browser, and no data is sent to or stored on a server.
