In brief

What Is Container Inspection, and What Does Uskont Do?

Container inspection (survey) is the on-site examination and documentation of a container’s structural condition and its fitness for international transport. In Istanbul, Uskont carries out CSC plate checks, periodic examinations under ACEP and PES, and damage, condition, after-repair and lashing surveys. Inspections can take place in the field, at the port, at your depot or in our workshop; for standard inspections a PDF report with photographs is emailed within 1 business day.

Why It Matters

The Standards We Work To

IICLMaintenance & repair standard
ISOContainer marking standard
CSCInternational safety certificate

A damaged or uncertified container can lead to port delays, rejected shipments and cargo damage. A single unchecked crack can turn into thousands of lira in water damage over a month-long sea voyage.

Working to IICL and ISO standards, Uskont's inspection team independently examines and reports whether your container is fit for both transport and operational use — which means reduced risk and full transparency for you.

Inspection FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Inspection

01

How often should an ACEP examination be carried out?

ACEP is event-based rather than calendar-based: containers are examined at on-hire/off-hire interchanges and during repairs, with no more than 30 months between examinations. Containers outside ACEP follow PES: the first examination within 5 years of manufacture, then at most every 30 months, with the date marked on the CSC plate.

02

Is the inspection done on site or at your facility?

Both are possible: your container can be inspected on site — in the field, at the port or at a depot — or brought to our workshop for inspection.

03

When is the report delivered?

For standard inspections, the report is emailed as a PDF with photographs within 1 business day of the inspection being completed.

04

What is the difference between PES and ACEP?

Both are examination methods accepted by the CSC convention. Under PES (Periodic Examination Scheme) the container is examined on set dates and the next examination date is marked on the CSC plate. Under ACEP (Approved Continuous Examination Programme) the container is examined at on-hire/off-hire interchanges and during repairs, within a programme the owner has had approved by the administration; the plate carries an ACEP number instead of a date.

05

What happens if the CSC plate has expired or is missing?

If the container will be used in international transport, its structural condition is examined first; any defect is repaired, and if it is found fit the next examination date is marked and an inspection certificate is issued. For static use such as storage or an office, CSC is not required.
